Why Use Role Play?
The ancient proverb “if you tell me I'll understand, if you show me I may remember, but if you involve me, I'll understand” speaks to role play's effectiveness as a learning tool. The best way to learn is by doing, and generally we learn through experiences from real life situations.
Using actors in role play takes training to a level where people can “learn by doing.” You are actually adding to the life experience of each person you give this opportunity to and your investment will pay dividends. When people experience something, we take that away with us like no book, video or lecture could ever replicate.
There are significant costs incurred when behaviour doesn't garner the results businesses hope for. They end up costing you through mismanaged or underdeveloped staff, high staff turnover, lost sales opportunities, legal ramifications, or your company's reputation.
With successful completion of a simulated situation under their belts, employees are better able to tackle the real thing with increased confidence and greater likelihood of success.
